Language enJob DescriptionDirector of DevOps and Information TechnologyPosition Summary:This leadership role reports to the Group CTO and is accountable for in-house, on premises and cloud infrastructure and operations for the company. The Director of DevOps & IT leads the design, build, and operational management of highly secure and scalable sites/software for the business and works to guarantee the reduction or removal of bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the IT, DevOps and engineering departments as a whole.As the leader of the DevOps department, the Director of DevOps & IT promotes, documents, and implements systems infrastructure best practices, building tools that allow the department to develop and deploy software rapidly while minimizing errors and impact on end-users and customers. The Director of DevOps & IT also leads the creation of tools and automated workflow capabilities in order to enable the business’s software engineering teams to test and promote code across the engineering department. The Director of DevOps & IT also builds, configures, and maintains the frameworks, tools, and systems that enable optimal performance of the business’s sites/software and leads the design and implementation of real-time monitoring systems of these sites/software.The Director of DevOps & IT plays a mentorship role to key DevOps personnel, constantly promoting improvement in their professional skills to maximize their effectiveness and enhance their personal long term value and satisfaction.Position Responsibilities:
- Design and implement configuration management best practices for software deployment
- Build, Deploy, and Manage AWS services
- Manage desktop and cloud IT support team
- Version control and source code administration
- Manage and design build and deployment pipelines
- Maintenance and upgrades of our cloud environments
- Monitoring tools and deployment automation development
- Diagnose complex systems issues with multiple influencing factors
- Work closely with the development team on upcoming features to determine correct infrastructure and related tools.
- Assist the support team with escalated customer issues
- Research and recommend internal tool improvement and development
- Develop scripts that support automation, innovation, and security initiatives
- Incident response to system alerts during local day hours
- Potential evening and weekend incident response may be required
- Work effectively with teams across the entire organization to support operational best practices and regulatory compliance
- Act as a trusted advisor, and build and maintain relationships with other technology and business leaders. Ensure cost-effective underpinning and enablement of IT services to meet those needs, and respond with the agility required to address changing priorities.
- Serve on cross functional teams when applicable to help drive the development of technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics.
- 8+ years experience working in a web development and/or operations roles
- 6+ years experience in Linux System Administration
- 4+ years experience scripting with bash, Ruby, Python and/or similar
- 4+ years experience working in Amazon Web Services. Knowledge of AWS CLI
- 4+ years experience setting up and monitoring uptime and performance management tools (Nagios, New Relic, Runscope, etc)
- 2+ years experience managing databases SQL and/or NOSQL (Postgres, MySQL and Mongo preferred)
- 2+ years experience in virtualization tools & infrastructure (Docker, Harbor)
- Experience with Continuous Development/Deployment/Integration design and best practices including security (Rattic, Harbor preferred)
- Experience managing and working with configuration management tools (Chef, Salt Stack, Ansible)
- Experience in Agile development practices (Kanban or Scrum)
- Ability to see opportunities for improvement, take ownership and work closely with others to drive operational improvement
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to correlate system behaviors based on known interdependencies between those systems
- Ability to handle ambiguity, embracing change and helping others see it as an opportunity and able to stay focused on goals while adapting to change
- Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments
- Strong leadership skills, with experience with remote team members, with the ability to develop and communicate vision that inspires and motivates staff
- Experience in the implementation of regulatory or statutory compliance, and IT security
- Success in leveraging best practices, as well as emerging methods, that are optimized for agility
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the workforce
